Space-themed kid’s bedroom

I designed this room for a 6-year-old boy who was transitioning from his more baby/toddler-geared bedroom. My inspiration for the room was the solar system artwork, which I used as a jumping-off point for colors and overall theme. While I repeated the space concept in pieces throughout the room (moon light fixture, moon closet pulls in brass, solar system mobile, and adorable astronaut air plant), I didn’t want it to be too theme-y. Children grow quickly and their tastes change just as fast. This design is neutral enough that it can easily be modified with the change-out of a few items as he grows.

The room had limited space (~10’x10’) so I added DIY book ledges on the wall next to the bunk bed, a bunk bed with storage beneath, as well as an organization system in the closet so we didn’t need to take up space in the bedroom for a dresser. The desk was determined to be a better use of space given the recent past of distance learning and is a piece that he can continue to use as he grows.
